Getting Your Decking Ready For Winter

Getting ready for a British winter & all Mother Nature has to offer

A guide to help keep your composite decking in good condition and safe during the winter months:

  • Autumn leaves and debris should be cleared from the decking using a soft bristled brush at regular intervals;
  • More stubborn spoilage such as bird droppings and mud should be removed using warm soapy water and a soft bristled brush;
  • Remove any snowfall using a plastic shovel rather than a metal one to alleviate the risk of scratching the surface and causing irreversible damage;
  • If ice should form on the decking, use a calcium chloride product to disperse this. Avoid using rock salt as this is a hard, abrasive material and could damage the surface.

As you can see from the above, winter maintenance of your composite decking is pretty minimal. Not only will this improve the appearance of your decking through the winter months, it will also be safer underfoot.
