Composite decking is very easily maintained and needs little attention, although it is recommended that cleaning and any general maintenance are undertaken on a regular basis.
What’s the best way to do this?
Firstly, the decking should be swept free of any leaves and debris with a soft bristled brush. Make sure that the gaps between the boards are free of any bits – these areas can be prone to moss and mildew if left as they will form blockages that will prevent rainwater from draining properly and air from circulating creating damp areas where these will thrive.
Once the decking is clear of any debris, mix some warm water with a general household soap such as washing-up liquid in a clean bucket and apply directly onto the decking. Use a soft bristled brush to clean the decking thoroughly.
Finally, spray off the soapy water with a household hose and dry down. Any hard to reach spots should be cleaned with a sponge.
Can I use bleach on my composite decking?
The simple answer to this is NO!
NEVER use bleach on your decking. It is particularly corrosive and can damage the surface of the decking, stripping away the protective coatings and damaging the finish. Dedicated specialist composite decking cleaners are available which are specifically formulated not to damage the decking. We recommend that any specially formulated cleaners are not used in direct sunlight as the chemicals are likely to react with the sun and could cause damage to the decking.
Below are some general instructions for cleaning specific types of spoilage:
All food spills should be removed as soon as possible. Spray off with a hose followed by warm soapy water or a mild detergent along with a cloth or soft bristle brush. No Solvents, Chemicals or Abrasive Cleaners Needed.
Not to be left in order to prevent marking. Spray off with a hose followed by warm soapy water & a soft bristle brush.
A plastic shovel may be used to gently remove the snow or ice from your decking. Alternatively a small amount of granulated white salt to melt the snow and ice from the deck surface and simply wash it off with warm soapy water & a soft bristle brush
You can leave scratches to gradually fade away on thier own
Loosen with a soft brush, use warm soapy water then spray off with a hose.
Spray off with a hose to remove surface debris, pollen & soil. use warm soapy water and a sodt bristle brush. if allowed to remain on deck surface, mould can feed on the biofilm.
Can I use a jet washer to clean my composite decking?
Step away from the jet washer!
We don’t recommend using a pressure washer on composite decking – the pressure can strip off the top protective coating of the boards which will affect the appearance, durability and the life of the decking.
